2010 was indeed a memorable year for Tamil Cinema
Name any actor - you have his movie. I cant clearly remember when Rajni, Kamal, Captain Vijaykanth, Sarathkumar, Sathyaraj, Vijay, Ajith, Vikram, Surya, Simbhu, Dhanush, Bharath, Arya, Karthi - everyone had a movie in one year.
Name any director - Mani ratnam, Shankar, K.S.Ravikumar, Hari, Venkat Prabhu - you had all the master craftmen in the posters and reviews.
There were commercial flicks, art flicks, novel attempts, funny movies, and all the recipe which you expect from the film industry.
Most of the ratings in Ananda Vikatan were more than 40.
With due respect to the Indian Penal Code, 144 films were released officially, out of which I believe at least 100 hit the screens in Coimbatore. I was (un) fortunate enough to watch 32 movies out of the list. Well, then am I justified to present my awards? What about the remaining 112 movies? Well, I consoled myself that all the people who present the awards did not go through it either.
Nonetheless, I had spent a lot of time pondering over these awards and I think I wont be able to justify the hard spent (?) time if I do not open this pandora's box.
I am sure some (if not many) will not agree with many (if not some) of the choices. But that's the way the cookie crumbles, that's the way the ball bounces and that's the way Sehwag bats.
And remember by having these awards announced and not presented in a famous ceremony, I have saved a lot of electricity which will be very handy in these days of power cuts.
For the final thoughts, I pray and I wish in 2011 that fans and critics of Tamil Cinema approach films with some more sense and stop tearing films apart, rather than enjoying them. 2010 saw the fans being reckless and ruthless, which in totality was useless.
Thanks for your ready patronage and patient reading!
